dc.description.resumoO objetivo deste estudo é investigar, com base nos pressupostos teóricos da Teoria da Otimidade (OT), o processo de aquisição do acento primário em nomes sufixados do inglês como língua estrangeira (LE) por falantes nativos do português brasileiro (PB), focalizando particularmente palavras trissílabas e polissílabas formadas pelos morfemas able, ment, ity e ous. Visa, além disso, a analisar a aquisição do padrão acentual em palavras não-sufixadas a partir das quais as palavras-alvo sufixadas são formadas. Foram analisados dados de quinze aprendizes de inglês, dos quais cinco são alunos de nível básico, cinco são alunos de nível intermediário e cinco são alunos de nível avançado. A classificação dos aprendizes nesses níveis deu-se a partir do tempo a que estavam expostos à língua inglesa e a partir de seus desempenhos em um teste de proficiência, baseado no exame First Certificate in English (FCE) da Universidade de Cambridge. Com base na OT, a análise dos dados permitiu a caracterização de diferentes níveis de interlíngua correspondentes aos diferentes adiantamentos, níveis esses que puderam ser representados por hierarquias de restrições as quais explicitaram o encaminhamento gradual dos aprendizes para a hierarquia de restrições da língua-alvo. Para o processo de aquisição do acento primário do inglês, os dados apontaram para a relevância da interação das restrições NONFINALITY e NEUTRALITY com outras restrições inclusive já integrantes da gramática da língua materna.por
dc.description.abstractThis study aims at investigating, in the light of Optimality Theory (OT), the acquisition process of primary stress in suffixed non-verbs in English as a foreign language by Brazilian Portuguese (BP) native speakers. It focuses particularly on three and four-syllable words formed by the following morphemes: able, ment, ity and ous. It also aims at analyzing the acquisition of the stress pattern in the non-suffixed words from which the target suffixed words are formed. Data from fifteen English students, five elementary level students, five intermediate level students and five advanced level students, were analyzed. Their classification in these levels was according to the time they have been exposed to the English language and according to their performance in a proficiency test, based on First Certificate in English (FCE) exam from University of Cambridge. The data analysis, carried out through OT, enabled the characterization of different interlanguage levels corresponding to the different proficiency levels studied. These levels could be represented by constraint hierarchies which showed the learners gradual development towards the target constraint hierarchy.
