Abstract: Introduction: Prenatal dental care aims to offer pregnant women preventive and curative treatments,
as well as guidance on oral hygiene, healthy eating, and common changes that may occur during
pregnancy. However, many barriers to accessing this care in primary care still exist, making it important
to understand how women perceive their oral health and whether this is associated with adherence to
prenatal dental care. Objective: To evaluate the association between having a dental consultation and
self-perceived oral health during pregnancy, in Primary Health Care Units (PHCUs) in the urban area
of São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using
self-administered questionnaires. Pregnant women undergoing prenatal care at seven primary health
care units in the urban area were included between March and September 2025. To assess the association
between self-perceived oral health and the performance of dental consultations during pregnancy, crude
and adjusted analyses were performed using Poisson regression models, measuring prevalence ratios
(PR) and their respective 95% confidence intervals (CI). For all analyses performed, a confidence level
of 5% (p<0.05) was established.. Results: 109 pregnant women participated in the study, of whom
36.1% reported a negative perception of their oral health. Regarding dental visits, 63.0% consulted a
dentist during pregnancy, and the main reason was prenatal dental care (60.3% [95% CI 48.07-71.34]).
Despite this, 77.1% (95% CI 68.03-84.25) of the pregnant women did not receive any guidance on how
to care for their child's oral health. In the adjusted analysis, pregnant women who consulted a dentist
during pregnancy had a 63% (PR 0.37 [95% CI 0.19- 0.71]) lower prevalence of negative oral health
perception compared to those pregnant women who did not consult a dentist. Conclusion: Pregnant
women who consulted a dentist showed a lower prevalence of negative perception of oral health,
indicating that going to the dentist during pregnancy is a protective factor against negative self
perception of oral health.

Abstract: Breastfeeding (BF) is recognized as an essential practice for maternal and child health and is
globally encouraged by the WHO and UNICEF. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative
(BFHI) establishes guidelines to support safe and effective breastfeeding practices. However,
the effectiveness of communication and implementation of these guidelines by healthcare
teams may vary across services. Thus, this study aimed to monitor, in a teaching hospital, the
effectiveness of breastfeeding guidance provided by the technical staff according to UNICEF
and WHO recommendations. This descriptive study was conducted with 248 postpartum
women, between 36 and 72 hours after delivery, admitted to the Obstetrics Unit of
HE/UFPel/EBSERH. Data collection occurred through a semi-structured dialogued interview,
including questions adapted from the BFHI self-assessment instrument and
sociodemographic variables, in addition to interviewer observations. Data were analyzed
using simple and relative frequencies, means, and standard deviations in SPSS software. High
adherence to Steps 5, 7, 8, and 10 was observed, with a high frequency of practical and
individualized guidance, as well as universal rooming-in rates and a high prevalence of
exclusive breastfeeding (87.5%). However, 57.3% of women did not experience skin-to-skin
contact, primarily due to neonatal complications. Difficulties with latch were reported by
52.2% of participants, the use of artificial nipples was low, and guidance about support
networks showed broad coverage. The hospital demonstrated strong adherence to BFHI
guidelines, reflecting its commitment to breastfeeding promotion and certification
maintenance. Nevertheless, the low prevalence of skin-to-skin contact and persistent latch
difficulties highlight areas that require further intervention. Finally, the findings of this study
informed the technical report delivered to the hospital, identifying strengths, areas for
improvement, and emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring, permanent staff
education, and enhanced clinical workflows to further strengthen BFHI certification and
improve the quality of maternal and child care.

Abstract: Introduction: Chronic pain is a multifactorial and complex condition, with biopsychosocial
aspects, characterized by its persistence beyond what is expected for a cure – conceptually
considered as persistent or recurrent pain for three months or more, with the potential to be a
disabling factor. Making a survey of the prevalence of chronic pain in local Primary Health
Care a reality is extremely fundamental, considering the impairment and scope of chronic pain
in an individual's life. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of chronic pain in an adult
population aged 20 years or older enrolled via the Family Health Strategy in the six Basic Health
Units (UBSs) of the Catholic University of Pelotas (UCPel) - Caic Pestano, Sanga Funda, Areal
I, União de Bairros, Py Crespo and Fátima - in Pelotas (RS). Method: A cross-sectional,
quantitative study was conducted between August 18 and September 19, 2025, with 154

participants, who were selected by convenience during medical appointments. A semi-
structured, virtual questionnaire – in Google Forms format – was applied, containing two parts,

the first being mandatory and the second only for patients with chronic pain. The first part
consisted of socioeconomic questions and a key question to identify the presence of chronic
pain – yes or no for pain lasting three months or more – as well as the location where the pain
is most present. The second part consisted of questions from the LANNS (Leeds Assessment
of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs) scale and, at the end, the Visual Analogue Scale for pain
(VAS). Results: among the 154 patients, 101 (65.6%) were classified as having chronic pain.
Age associated with chronic pain was most prevalent in groups over 40 years old, especially in
the 61-70 age range (85.3%). The most frequently reported locations for pain were the lower
limbs, mentioned by 31.7% of individuals, and the lumbosacral spine (lower back pain), with
28.7% of reports. 39.6% presented neuropathic pain based on the final score of the LANNS
scale, and regarding the VAS (Visual Analogue Scale), the average score reported by
participants was 7.5, consistent with intense chronic pain. Discussion: This study highlights a
high prevalence of chronic pain in the studied population, compared to averages already
reported in Brazil and worldwide in previous studies, as well as a significant relationship
between pain and advanced age. Furthermore, it demonstrates a higher-than-expected
prevalence of chronic neuropathic pain and confirms the lower limbs and lumbosacral spine as
prominent pain locations. Conclusion: Therefore, it is essential to consider these findings to
foster strategies and policies for greater care and attention to chronic pain and the health of the
elderly in the region, and the need for further studies with larger samples for a more detailed
understanding of the population in question is evident.
